This week we started the beginning of a new adventure in parenting. I've run across some funny things a long the way. One of my favorite moments came just after a time out from which the mouth expelled a crime, so Jace did some time. As he was sitting on the chair, thinking of what good things he could say instead of what he did say, he fidgeted a few times, hummed a bit and then said he was ready to change. Out of his mouth came ever so seriously" I am ready to change my life mom." Can you believe it? Not only was he ready to change his attitude, and think of some nice things to say, like "you're the bestest mommy ever," but he decided he was ready to change his life! Brilliant I say. Brilliant. LOL! Now if only he fully grasped what he said...See how one little moment to think can change such a narrow perspective to such a broad one? And it can teach mom too! : ) I learn a lot from this little two year old.
I learned something else this week, in a moment on the floor with him, explaining to him while he sat in my lap something about self-control. So then he looked puzzled for a moment, but didn't ask me what that word meant like he usually does. So, i asked him. Jace, do you know what self-control means? He said, yes! I do! I said, oh good. Can you tell mommy what self-control means? He said , "it's one of my cousins"! That one really made me laugh.
And here's the last but not least discipline related Jace story of the week, and by far the funniest to me. After going to bed early and screaming "stupid mommy" at the door for about 1/2 hr or more, it was time for Joaren to get ready for bed. So, as Joaren got ready in the bathroom, I sat down in the hallway to talk to Jace who's sweet little face was pressed into the crack of the open door (locked with Safety 1st no pinch lock..) and he decided it was about time to stop the attitude bk it clearly wasn't getting anywhere with me...and we had a nice little chat. Upon arrival into the room with Joaren, Jace was in a much better mood. As I sat on Joaren's bed reading about Naaman, and Elisha I look up to see Jace doing something again that he's not supposed to do... but instead of seeing the fault I burst out laughing at the sight of him jumping up and down on his bed singing at the top of his lungs " love hurts!" No joke, you can't make that one up! Thanks mom, for the little pig he learned that song from. -Maybe, just maybe according to my mother brain, he's getting the message!
So, overtime Jace has had many names for everyday things which come from either a misinterpretation of the word, or just a silly moment. We sat down at the table the other night and he started crying and said " No!!!! I don't want to eat spanish!" -He meant spinach. He also calls his favorite treat "sorvet", Sorbet...and his most recent name for his sister is little Hopington.
So, in summation, I learned to be ready to change my life, we have a new family member named self-control, spanish is not a favorite to eat, and Hopington is so sweet. He's a doodle. And I love him. This is a day in the life o Jace.
